LSART SHELTER TRAINING COURSE IN SHREVEPORT




On Nov 4  27 Animal responder volunteers met in Bossier City to participate in an LSART Shelter Training course. Most responders came from  the nearby Shreveport, Bossier City area as well as the Monroe Area. Participants came from as far away as Vicksburg Miss. Dr Kay Carter-Corker and Tracey Thompson from USDA APHIS Animal Care were present to particpate and provide insight into the federal governments's role in the shelters.
The Morning LSART  Shelter training course was presented by Dr Becky Adcock LSART State PIO and Dr Renee Poirrier LSART Director. The afternoon Session was a Red Cross animal First Aid course presented by Dr Sue Bradley,LSART District 1 Small Animal Coordinator, Dr Gary Dupree,Dr Gia Morgan, and Dr Brad Everson

We put up the best information we could find about where to make donations that count to the people involved in animal relief.
One of the groups who did the most in the animal rescue side appears to be San Diego Humane Society & SPCA

Along with our partner, LVMA and their WJE Fund, we sent funds to help support equine sheltering at the Delmar Racetrack.

LDAF signs new MOU with LSART

Commissioner of Agriculture and Forestry Bob Odom and Renee Poirrier, Director of LSART,
have signed an MOU for 2007.  In signing, the Commissioner has endorsed the SART concept of organizing planning and response for animals in emergencies.  LSART has pledged its leadership, knowledge and experience to assist LDAF in the management of animal-related disaster incidents.
